
Meet Maiyah King (Diné) from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Maiyah is a SONF Alumni member and has participated in two programs in the past: the 2018 Native Collegiate Artist Residency and the Soul of Nations Group Exhibition at Santa Fe Indian Market. We are shining a spotlight on Maiyah to higher her beautiful poetry and honorable political engagement.

Indigenous Youth Spotlight
This Spring, Maiyah was featured on PBS’ Speak Out Poetry series where 9 young people of color from New Mexico share 11 poems about social justice, culture, and identity. Maiyah’s poem was entitled, Shower Singer.
Maiyah was also invited as a guest speaker at the New Mexico State Legislature in honor of New Mexico’s Native American Day. The forum was focused on honoring and Protecting the Earth for Future Generations and was lead by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. Pueblo Governors and Leaders Proclaim Native American Day Every day. Pueblo, Navajo, and Apache leaders addressed the New Mexico State Legislature with the contributions Native Americans are making to the land of enchantment with Art, Culture, Economic Development, Tourism, and Cultural diversity.
